Psychological Evaluations

Psychological assessments evaluate factors such as mood, personality, and coping resources to assist with diagnosis and treatment planning. Such an evaluation may be the first step in engaging in psychotherapy at our Center or may be requested by your physician to help plan your care.

The Center for Rehabilitation Psychology and Neuropsychology, PC, also provides psychological evaluations for presurgical assessment for procedures such as:

  • Bariatric procedures: gastic bypass, gastric sleeve

  • Spinal cord stimulator

  • Nerve decompression surgery for occipital neuralgia

The psychological evaluation and report will be used to:

  • Identify mood, personality style, and specific information regarding your overall functioning and behavior.

  • Provide information on how your current emotional and behavioral functioning impacts your daily activities and quality of life.

  • Provide baseline information that may be useful in measuring the effects of medical, surgical, psychotherapeutic, or rehabilitative treatments.

  •  Identify coping skills and other areas of strength that can be utilized in developing therapies or treatment approaches to help you.

Report and feedback services:

  • Findings of the assessment will be summarized in a comprehensive evaluation report that will be provided to the referring physician, and other physicians and healthcare providers that you designate.

  •  A feedback session will be scheduled to review the results of the evaluation with you, as well as any recommendations.

Preparing for your evaluation:

  • The evaluation is typically around 3-4 hours.

  • If you will need assistance, please have someone accompany you.

  • Avoid scheduling other appointments within five hours of your appointment time.

  • Obtain any relevant medical records to bring with you.

  • Bring your current medications or a detailed list of your current prescriptions.

  • Please bring your eyeglasses and/or hearing aids with you.
